On the Road to find the Ultimate American Safari Destination

Alisa, Alayah, and I have been on the road for almost a year. We've meet some of the greatest people this country has to offer, seen some crazy and not so crazy trails and back country. We are now currently on our South East run starting in Montana, heading through Texas, down to Miami Florida. Our Freightliner Columbia class truck making life easier on the road, and in the long run saving us a load off money living off grid. We are converting the truck to Veggie fuel, and adding solar to the coach to lower our carbon foot print. The freightliner is also being modified to carry the Hummer as well as pulling the coach. I'll update as changes are made.

Wyoming's Morrison Jeep Trail (near Bear Tooth Bass)

Morrison Jeep Trail near the boarder of Wyoming and Montana is one of the America’s epic unknown remote off-road trails endangered of us losing to closures. I explored this trail late in the 07’ season one day before snow hit it and snowed it in for the year. Trail is about 25 plus mile long and is not for the unprepared, even though I travel this trail alone with a friend of mine in just the Hummer I would not recommend this, go with more then one vehicle!!!! Walking out is not a option!!! The trail starts in the Clarks Fork Canyon at a elevation of around 4200 feet and tops off along the way near the famous Bear Tooth Pass at 10100. The trail has three distinctive personalities high desert, forest, and high mountain tundra with epic views. You get plenty of each starting with high desert while driving along the rapid filled Clarks Fork river, after a few miles the trial goes from a leisure drive to a tough Colorado Black Bear type set of switch backs that seem to never end. This trail is normally driven by ATV’s and when you start the switch backs you’ll feel this right away, turns are extremely tight and I would hate to be on this section during any type of adverse weather. The road bed seems to be a little unstable with the small to large rocks built into the base not having the feel that they are glue to the canyon wall with anything. At times a little unnerving when you have well over a 1000’ foot drop back into the canyon. Even the spotter needs to spot himself with rattle snakes in the canyon and Grizzly Bears at the loftier elevations. The Climb has two pushes with the second ending up switch backing in a tight steep forest.

Saint Anthony Dunes, ID

Even though we have a broken steering box we still had fun on these unbelievable dunes. Here are just a couple picture of us tooling around with no steering or brakes.

Givens Hot Springs, Idaho

BRAVO - Meatgrinder 4 - 4+ We had a great day with some cool locals testing out our new lift kit and 42" Irocs on upper Meatgrinder. The truck was doing great with out missing a step then our twelve year old steering box did a yard sale all over the rocks the last 20ft of the trail. In all it took about three hours of hell to get the truck off the trail and back to camp. But I can't complain, if you don't break every once in awhile your not crawling with the big boys.
